Frequently asked questions

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses concentrated light beams to target and damage hair follicles, preventing them from producing new hair. The laser light is absorbed by the melanin (color) in the hair, which damages the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

While laser hair removal can significantly reduce the amount of hair in the treated area, it is not always permanent. Some people may require touch-up treatments, especially on areas with a high rate of hair growth. However, it does significantly reduce the hair growth and might not require frequent touchups.

Is laser hair removal safe?

When performed by a trained and licensed professional, laser hair removal is considered safe. However, it’s important to avoid sun exposure or tanning before and after treatments, as the laser may cause discoloration or damage to the skin.

Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?

People with darker hair and lighter skin are generally the best candidates for laser hair removal. However, new technologies and machines with multiple wavelength can treat different skin and hair color. People with darker skin and people who have a lot of fine and light-colored hair might be less successful with laser hair removal, although still worth giving a try and an experienced practitioner will be able to advise.

How many treatments are needed for optimal results?

The number of treatments needed for optimal results can vary depending on the individual and the area being treated. Typically, a series of 6-8 sessions are recommended for optimal results. However, you will see some reduction from the first session.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Some people may experience mild discomfort during laser hair removal, similar to the sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin. However, many practitioners use cooling devices or gels to reduce discomfort during the treatment.

What should I expect after a laser hair removal treatment?

After a laser hair removal treatment, the treated area may be red and swollen for a few hours to a day. You may also experience some mild discomfort or a warm sensation in the treated area. You should avoid sun exposure or tanning for at least a week before and after the treatment. Sun exposure can cause discoloration of the skin or make the treatment less effective.

Can I apply makeup or lotion after laser hair removal?

It is best to avoid applying makeup or lotion immediately after laser hair removal. It’s better to wait for 24 hours after treatment and then use the skincare products suggested by your practitioner.

Please be aware that everyone’s body reacts differently to the treatment, thus it’s always best to consult with a qualified practitioner for personalised advice.
